BIOS MATER was recently showcased at EUBP Talk #1: Material Solutions – Bioplastics Beyond Packaging: Construction, part of the talk series organised by European Bioplastics. The event brought together researchers, organisations, and industry representatives to exchange insights on emerging applications of bioplastics across sectors, with a dedicated focus on the construction industry.
During the session, Carlos Pérez Montero, coordinator of BIOS MATER from Fundación CIRCE, presented the project and shared insights into the development of innovative bio-based materials for construction. His presentation highlighted how these solutions can contribute to a more sustainable built environment by reducing reliance on fossil-based materials and supporting circular construction practices. He was joined by Nikolaos Athanasopoulos (4D-Mater), who provided additional technical perspectives on material innovation within the project.
The webinar explored the growing role of bioplastics in construction, from insulation and façade systems to structural applications, while opening discussion on key challenges and opportunities related to scalability, performance, and real-world implementation.
The session also featured contributions from other EU-funded initiatives, including the ATRIUM Project. Notably, Ivana Burzic (Wood K plus) presented advancements in PHA-hemp composites for green wall applications, further demonstrating the breadth of innovation taking place across the European bio-based construction landscape.
This exchange reinforced the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing between projects working towards a common goal: accelerating the transition to a sustainable, circular, and bio-based built environment.
