In November, the BIOS MATER consortium gathered in Coimbra, Portugal, for its latest General Assembly meeting, hosted by ITECONS. The two-day event brought together representatives from the project’s 22 partner organisations to review progress, align technical work, and strengthen collaboration as the project moves forward.
Now in month nine, BIOS MATER is transitioning from its initial planning phase toward deeper technical development. The meeting provided an important opportunity for partners to synchronise their efforts, refine strategies, and discuss the next steps in the development of innovative bio-based construction materials.
The first day focused on project updates and coordination across the different work packages. Partners shared progress made so far, identified key milestones ahead, and discussed how different research streams will converge to support the development of safe, circular, and high-performance bio-based building solutions.
The second day was dedicated to interactive workshops, with a strong focus on production routes for the project’s materials and planning for the DEMOpark, where BIOS MATER solutions will be tested and demonstrated in real construction environments. These sessions allowed partners to dive deeper into technical questions, exchange expertise, and collaboratively refine approaches that will support the transition from laboratory research to practical applications.
Beyond the technical discussions, the meeting reinforced the collaborative spirit that underpins the BIOS MATER project. Bringing together researchers, industry partners, and innovation experts in the same room creates space for open dialogue, problem-solving, and new ideas.
As BIOS MATER continues to progress, meetings like the General Assembly in Coimbra play a crucial role in maintaining alignment across the consortium and ensuring that innovative concepts are translated into tangible, real-world solutions for the construction sector.
